6 Relaxing Ways to Unwind

We have all had those days when 'adulting' is the last thing we want to do. Sometimes you may just want a moment away from all the stressful and demanding complications that life has a habit of throwing our way. I know I sure do. The tension has a way of weighing you down both mentally and emotionally; and if you don't do anything about it, it can affect your health in the long run. That's why I compiled a short list of simple things that you can do to unwind after a stressful day.

  1. Reading:

My favourite thing to unwind is snuggling up in a corner somewhere and losing myself in a good story. It helps to embrace another life or imagine going on an adventure sometimes, especially when you just want to forget your own problems.
  2. Gaming:

When I am simply looking to release some stress, I play games with my love or my friends. Sometimes massacring mobs in game while having a good conversation with friends online, is just what the doctor calls for. It's definitely a fun way to de-stress.
  3. Walking:

I know, I know. Walking around is possibly the last thing that some of us want to do after a stressful day, but it works! Sometimes, taking a short walk and getting some fresh air allows you to relax and clear your mind. I know that I have had several situations occur in the past and I just flipped out and took a really long walk to calm my nerves. It gave me a chance to think and reevaluate, which is a lot more than I would done if I just sat there and stewed in my own stress.
  4. Writing:

This is advice that I give to my own friends. Writing may not be something that everyone enjoys doings, but it does allow you to release some of that pent-up emotion. It gives you a chance to write out everything that you are feeling and are frustrated about because you can't express it well out loud. It even gives you a chance to discover or understand why you feel the way you do. It doesn't need to be a diary or journal of any kind, but writing out your problems every now and then is a good way to get it out, so you don't sit there thinking about your issues all night long.
  5. Working out/Playing Sports:

Some people need a more aggressive way to release their stress or tension. I don't particularly go this route myself, because I'm lazy, but I have several friends that do extreme work outs or play sports like kick boxing or rugby, just to release all of that pent-up negative energy. I even have friends who turn to yoga and meditation instead. Centering themselves has allowed them to relax and be happier overall.
  6. Drinking:

I don't usually suggest this because alcohol in no way or form fixes problems, but I have to admit sometimes a good stiff drink can go a long way in relaxing nerves and calming a person down. I like to add liqueurs or flavored vodka to my tea and coffee at times and it works wonders. Some of my friends prefer a nice glass or wine or a bottle of beer. It's whatever, suits your tastes best to be honest. It's not something that should be done everything, because you definitely don't want to build a reliance on alcohol in the long run.

There are so many simple ways to unwind and release stress. At the end of the day you can decide which works best for you. It doesn't matter if it's spiritual, mental, or physical, just try to let go for your own health. Are there other ways that you de-stress that aren't listed? I would love to hear about them. Tell me all about them in the comments down below.

Until next time...
