Pan fried Yuca Fries

I want you to know that I absolutely love Yuca. It's such a great ingredient, especially in soups. I just adore how Yuca soaks up soup broth. Just thinking about it makes me hungry. Anyway, I recently bought some Yuca to use in my soup, but ended up lacking a few other ingredients. There was no way I was going to let my Yuca go to waste so I thought about what to use it for. Luckily, I remembered Yuca fries. It was something I knew about, but I never tried myself before. Boy am I glad I did this time! Not only are they super easy to make, I personally think that they are tastier than normal fries.

In fact in a few easy steps you will be able to make them too.

Pan Fried Yuca

(1 Yuca serves 1-2 people)

  1. First peel your Yuca with a small knife. Make sure you get all the brown bits off.
  2. Then cut it into quarters horizontally and boil in a pot of salted water until soft. Don't over boil it or it will just fall a part. You'll know it's done when you can stick a fork into it. Once that's done, drain your Yuca and let it cool for a bit.
  3. On a chopping board you will want to slice your Yuca lengthwise and remove that hard spine from the center.
  4. After that you can cut your Yuca into fry shapes. Don't worry if it's not perfect. That won't matter at all.
  5. Make sure you have a pan ready, use which ever kind of cooking oil you want. You don't need much oil so be careful. Once your pan is heated at medium heat, add your Yuca and fry it until its a nice golden brown.
  6. Remove the Yuca from the pan add salt and let it drain a bit before plating and serving.

Easy right?
Yuca fries are perfect when you want a quick alternative to regular potato fries. It's definitely a dish I recommend trying at least once!

Until next time...
